Tired? Exhausted? These symptoms might be signals from your body, telling you it is time for a lifestyle change and to detox your body! “Detox” (short for detoxification) means cleaning up your body from the inside. Getting rid of bad food, medication and other bad influences. A detox treatment revives your spirits, as it boosts your immune system, cleans the detoxifying organs like the kidneys, gut and liver, clears your skin and may help you get rid of a few extra pounds.

Detoxing? What does it actually mean?
Coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, junk food and lots of animal products (f.ex. yogurt, cheese or meat) increase the acidity in the body and stress the detoxifying organs. Liver, gut, skin and the other organs normally don’t know how to handle this. It gets even harder for them when the body is stressed with an unbalanced diet, not enough exercise, stress and a lack of sleep. The natural acid-base balance of the body is attacked, which may cause fatigue.

A detox treatment therefore consists of mainly alkaline ingredients and thereby supports the detoxifying organs ideally. During a detox it is required to set your nutrients intake to a 2-hours-rhythm. The main advantage is that the metabolism takes no break and the body does not enter the “starving mode” – in this mode it would switch to an energy-saving mode, slow down the metabolism and defend the fat storage – after all, who knows how long this famine will last?
It’s best to start your detox treatment on the weekend. Especially when it’s the first time it is important to start slowly and observe how your body reacts to the change. It is also crucial to pay attention to your water intake: You should drink at least 2 litres a day! Green tea can support your detox as well, since it is high in antioxidants, which protect the body from free radicals. Tea blends, combine this effect with other natural fat burning and energizing ingredients. You should also make sure to sleep enough (7-8 hours are recommended), since the body’s natural purging and cleaning processes take place during this period of rest.

Especially in the beginning and if you are detoxing for the first time,  it can be really hard. But don’t worry, your body just has to get used to the changes.  Light headaches might occur, but they should disappear after the first three days as soon as your body gets used to the new diet.

Smoothies are the perfect addition to your detox diet, because they contain multiple vital nutrients for your body and not that many calories.

Especially Detox Smoothies or Detox Water is a great alternative to regular water or a snack. Smoothies are actually quicker in preparation than most people think, you just need a high-speed blender. There are no limit to your creativity when making them – just put in the mix whatever you like.
